In attempts to better prepare students for a very crucial test in their lives, the administration decided to implement the PSAT into their test curriculum.

“On Wednesday, October 11, all juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT,” said associate principal and assessment coordinator Sharida Lewis.  The testing on this day is for 11th graders only. All other grades will follow their normal school schedule.

Previously utilizing the perks of Khan Academy and the mentorship of NHS advisors, the administration took a more direct approach to test preparation. With students already taking the PSAT in 8th grade, they are able to get another look at the test format and determine whether they want to submit their SAT or their ACT score.

Although the new test suggests the increasing in spending, the benefits fall back onto the students with the potential of scholarships. “This exam also gives students the opportunity to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship,” said Lewis. “Students who test in the top 1% nationally could potentially earn a $2,500 college scholarship.” The 11th graders will take the test at an 11:30 a.m. start time.
