Water Main Break causes Bloomfield Contamination
A transmission main break occurred on 14 Mile Road between Farmington and Drake Road at 5:45 p.m., on Monday, October 23, leading to a significant loss of water pressure in the water distribution system and a bacterial contamination in the water. Bloomfield and West Bloomfield township are under a water boil advisory until further notice.
Residents are advised to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food or making ice. A precaution is to bring water to a rolling boil for one minute and to let it cool for approximately 15 minutes before drinking. Avoid using tap water to make drinks, formula, juices, or fountain soft drinks.
Furthermore, use hand sanitizer after washing hands with soap and water. Bathing is completely safe as long as no water is swallowed. The district teams have been working diligently to secure the resources needed to have school Wednesday, October 25 Â and the remainder of the week. The boil alert may last for several days but drinking water and hand sanitizer will be available for all students and staff at Bloomfield Hills High School.

Hi Maya! Thanks for this article as it was very informative and interesting. Most people really do take things that they have for granted especially water. It was very difficult for me at least to be without water. I really liked how you included pictures as it really helped get the point across of what has been happening.

Hi, I’m Marley and I’m from Ms. Hammitt’s writing through literary genres class. I like how you straight away summed up about what was happening about the boil water advisory. You go into explaining how you can take action by boiling all water used from everyday use, and what to avoid. Lastly you talk about how the district is taking action to protect the students, by supplying hand sanitizer and bottled water. Overall gives clear information on what’s happening and how to protect yourself from the contaminated water.

Hi Maya,
It was crazy to see how many residents of Oakland County were effected by this unexpected occurrence. I will say, however, it put things into perspective a lot. I feel like a lot of times people forget that it is a privilege to have clean water to drink, a bed to sleep in, and roof over your head.
