A transmission main break occurred on 14 Mile Road between Farmington and Drake Road at 5:45 p.m., on Monday, October 23, leading to a significant loss of water pressure in the water distribution system and a bacterial contamination in the water. Bloomfield and West Bloomfield township are under a water boil advisory until further notice.

Residents are advised to boil tap water or use bottled water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing fruits and vegetables, preparing food or making ice. A precaution is to bring water to a rolling boil for one minute and to let it cool for approximately 15 minutes before drinking. Avoid using tap water to make drinks, formula, juices, or fountain soft drinks.

Furthermore, use hand sanitizer after washing hands with soap and water. Bathing is completely safe as long as no water is swallowed. The district teams have been working diligently to secure the resources needed to have school Wednesday, October 25  and the remainder of the week. The boil alert may last for several days but drinking water and hand sanitizer will be available for all students and staff at Bloomfield Hills High School.
