Milk and Vine is a Perfect Parody

Milk and Vine is a Perfect Parody

When the iconic social media app “Vine”on January 17, 2017, it was a loss I never knew would take a toll. Almost a year later, as I click on the tenth vine compilation in a row, I realize how much Vine meant to me and how much I regret taking it for granted.

I am not alone in this mourning.

On October 22, 2017, Adam Gasiewski and Emily Beck published the book “Milk and Vine”, written in the format of the poetry collection “Milk and Honey” by Rupi Kaur. On the surface, the book is essentially a compilation of Vines in the style of the Tumblr-esque poetry, but it means much more than that.

To die-hard Vine viewers such as myself, “Milk and Vine” is a tribute to those who refuse to let Vine die. The 74 Vines included have the transcript of some of the most worshipped six second videos, so obviously, I have a copy next to my bed.

For $5, the book is worth the good laugh. I read through it in one night, then raced to Amazon to buy copies for my friends. There’s nothing I love more than referencing these videos in conversation, and having the book is a physical copy of what my friends and I talk about constantly.

I already have four friends asking for it as their #1 item, and having sold hundreds of copies and sparking talk all over Twitter, I can see why. Whether it’s a stocking stuffer or a gag gift, “Milk and Vine” is the perfect present for the holidays.
