Student Leaderships Hosts 3rd Annual Dodgeball Tournament

Music. Snacks. A trophy filled with gift cards. Throwing colorful foam balls at your friends and peers.

On Tuesday, February 6th, at 2:40 p.m, Student Leadership representatives from the class of 2019 will host their 3rd school-wide dodgeball tournament in the main gym.

Teams of five will enter for five dollars per player and compete in bracket style games to determine the 2018 winners. To enter, students must fill out a registration form, which can be found hanging up around the school, and turn it in to the main office or any junior Student Leadership Members: Ari Singer, Anna Ryan, Ankith Varchasvi, Benny Fellows, Blake Prebay, Debra Moraitis, Dominic Yee, Jackson Irmscher, JP Arslanian, Makena Torrey, and Sophia Washer (Sofi K).

The profits made from the competition go towards the class of 2019’s prom. There is no fee for spectating.

“This is one of my favorite events the Student Leadership throws.” said junior and student leadership member JP Arslanian, “It’s a great way to start the 2nd semester, unwind and hang out with your friends.”

Senior, Alex Emde agrees. “I’ve actually competed in the dodgeball tournament before.” said Emde, “This event is super unique because the atmosphere is so positive even though dodgeball can be really competitive. The friendly fire is what makes me want to participate year after year.”

From the business side of things, junior, Makena Torrey states that, “the dodgeball competition is an idea that our team came up with freshman year and it has been super cool to watch the event’s growth over the years.”

“It’s been a very successful fundraiser in the past and we are hopeful that it continues to grow even after our class graduates. We want this to become a school tradition for 2nd semester. ” said Torrey.

She later explained that, “Student Leadership is about uniting the student body and that is what the dodgeball tournament aims to do. It’s important that we take time out of our busy workdays and enjoy the high school experience.”

I have attended the dodgeball tournament for the past three years as a spectator and it is a very enjoyable experience. The music and homemade snacks combined with watching my peers is a memorable event. Also, it is a great way to have students participate in fundraising for the class of 2019’s prom while involving themselves in school spirited activities.
