Michigander or Michiganian?

I am Nicholas Albaran at the WBFH News Desk.

Lansing has been obsessed with a debate over what, exactly, to call Michigan residents. Are they Michiganders or Michiganians? In the past, Michigan governors such as Jennifer Granholm, John Engler, and Jim Blanchard have used the term “Michiganian” to label people who live in Michigan. However, Current governor Rick Snyder prefers “Michigander”. The debate has gotten so much attention of late, that Michigan legislators approved a resolution this week, related to what Michigan residents should be called. Senate Bill No. 562 clearly defines residents of Michigan as “Michiganders”. With this very serious debate cleared away, Michigan Congress is now diverting their attention to other topics of attention on our state. Governor Snyder is expected to sign this bill into law shortly.
