National Walkout

I am Nicholas Albaran at the WBFH News Desk.

On Wednesday, March 14th, high schoolers across the United States walked out of school for seventeen minutes. The reason for this walkout was to raise awareness about the issues of school safety and each minute represents one of the victims of the Parkland High School shooting. Camilla Russo, a senior who helped organize the Bloomfield Hills High School walkout gives her opinion.

“The discussion regarding gun violence often seems to be in the hands of the politicians. The walkout, for me, was an opportunity to show how an issue may seem out of our hands, we still have a voice in the discussion. In my opinion, the walkout sends a powerful message to our representatives, because we are the future voters. We will be the ones to decide if a politician will or will not be re-elected. So our voice matters in the issue, even though we’re not the ones voting on it.”
