The second annual Bring Your Own Dog (B.Y.O.D.) is approaching on Sunday, May 6th from 11:00 am – 4:00 pm at the Franklin Village Green. Hosted by Student Leadership, the dog-fair fundraiser benefits the Michigan Humane Society and is open to communities all around Oakland County.

The event offers a diverse range of activities, games, and prizes for kids, families, and pups. What prominently characterizes B.Y.O.D. , though, is the no-leash play zone for dogs and the presence of local pet stores and businesses that volunteer to donate giveaways and information about their organizations. Moreover, the 2017 sponsors – TyVy Pet Hotel , Premier Pet Supply, and Pet Valu Pet Store – will be coming back for this year’s event .

Last year, over $1,100 was raised for the Michigan Humane Society and over 200 participants and their pups reached the Franklin Village Green to show their support.

With last year’s success, B.Y.O.D. is becoming an annual Student Leadership event. The original event founders, Eeshika Dadheech, Lexie Finkelstein,  Rikki Goldman, Debra Moraitis, and Meredith Parr, have expanded their event plans and their team for the 2018 date. The additional co-leaders now include Savitri Anantharaman, Alex Emde, Jake Lefkofsky, Blake Prebay, and Ben Silberman.

According to junior Meredith Parr, they couldn’t be happier with the productivity they’ve experienced as a team during the planning process. “The more the merrier!” she explained. “We need all the help we can get. With such a big event, community support is vital. That’s why we opened up the opportunity for the National Honors Society Students to gain service hours.”

To enter the park, all participants must fill out a physical safety waver which you can find on their website or at the park’s welcome tables  There is a minimum donation entry fee of $3, but all are welcome to donate more, with the option of donating money online.

Lastly, there is no official address for this property, but the carnival-type set up will be across the street from the Franklin Village Community Church on 26425 Wellington Rd, Franklin, MI 48025 and behind the Franklin Village Library on 32455 Franklin Rd, Franklin, MI 48025.

“We are expecting a great turnout for May 6th. There’s going to be more food, more sponsors, more games, and this time We hope to see you there! ” said Parr.
