The Spanish Club is planning on organizing a pen pal program with a group of students from Ecuador.

The idea was initially brought forth by several students who wanted to connect with native Spanish speakers.

“I was able to get in touch with a teacher from a school in Ecuador who is looking to start a pen pal or communication exchange program with our students to write correspondence back and forth,” said Alison Gallagher, Spanish teacher and the club sponsor.

Club president Nicole Toussaint says, “We loved the idea of being able to communicate with students from Ecuador and learn about their country and culture.”

“I think it will have a big impact because it’s a nice opportunity for students to be able to use the language they’ve been learning in the classroom in a real world,” said Gallagher. “I’m also excited to see the cultural impact on students who will be learning the way of life [of students] in a different country.”

Both Gallagher and Toussaint encourage any student interested to join Spanish Club.

“Our goal right now is to get as many participants from our school as possible,” said Toussaint. “We feel this is a really fun way to learn and practice Spanish for high school students.”
