Is that what you want?

You want what you can’t have.

A phrase we have all heard a million times, but what I think we don’t all realise is that this little sentence ecompases all that this past year has been.

When it was “normal” no one wanted to go to school. We would all wake up to that screeching alarm, roll over, and hate the thought of going to school. Little did we know that would all become something we wished for.

I think this idea truly shows how fickle everyone in the world can be, but it was in those huge life changes that we all had to make where we were able to adapt and grow. Personally, even though I have certainly gone far fewer places this past year compared to a regular year, I have gone way further emotionally. I have learned more about myself. More about the types of things I like to do, where I want to be, and how I want to get there.

This internal growth was hard. One of the hardest things to do given that I did not want to do it in the first place. I wanted to keep going the way I always had. To keep going to school everyday, to hang out with my same friends everyday, but when that was all taken away, I actually gained knowledge that I will use for the rest of my life while I examined myself and what makes me happy.

So, when everyone says you have to like the same things you once did, and even though your life did a 180 this past year you have to jump right back into your old way of life, stop and think: do I really want that?
