Thank you to the Theatre Department

The other day I was doing some research about the director Robert LePage for an IB Theatre presentation and I found this one quote of his that I really liked, so it felt right to start off my thank you and farewell letter to the theatre program with it.

“I’ve chosen to work in theatre more than any other artistic expression because it doesn’t exist without a community. Even if you do a one-man show, even if you’re alone on-stage, you’re not really alone: there’s a community of people that surrounds you to help you out. I’m interested in that paradox: you feel lonely, you want to express loneliness, but you’re in a crowd actually. You have a whole crowd of people helping you out, doing it.”

A lot of people spend their high school careers finding and then existing within a community of sorts, whether that be through clubs, sports, or, like me, theatre. I moved to Bloomfield from halfway across the world almost three years ago and started here as a sophomore, so I knew no one and I knew very little about the school itself except for the fact that it had a beautiful theatre and an incredible theatre program. I had one of the worst days of my life the first day of school that year, but every day from then on was filled with the constant formation of new friendships and the absolute joy that came along with finding my very own community here.

I don’t really think I could write enough words to really sum up how much I feel for everyone who I have met through this program and every opportunity I have been lucky enough to have–all I can really say is thank you. I just know that I love everyone I have had the absolute honor of working with on any project or production, and I love this program with all of my heart, mind, body, and soul. I am so immensely appreciative of everything I have been able to do in my short time in Bloomfield, and for this lovely little community I have had the pleasure of being a part of.
