Class of 2017 Graduation

The 2017 class of seniors have officially graduated.

On June 11th, 374 seniors gathered with family and friends at DTE Energy Music Theatre to officially turn the tasse.

As the graduation went on, there was continuous anticipation that rose over the crowd from the students, waiting to hear their names to walk across the stage. This ultimately started during the Pledge of Allegiance led by student leadership presidents, Nicholas Bellinson and Elizabeth Stubbs.

It was the hottest day of the year, but the emotional speeches from School Board trustee, Mark Bank, and School Board president, Ingrid Day made everyone forget about the sweat dripping down their face, but about morals of our lives.

Of course, no one will ever forget the concert put on by graduate, Panayiotis Stavropoulos.  Starting with ‘What is Love,’ by Haddaway and ending with a very sentimental tribute to the class in singing, ‘Time of Your Life,’ by Green Day.

I cannot lie, I even shed a tear or two.

And of course, as amazing as the show was, it couldn’t have been as successful without the nice touches of the choir singing and the orchestra strumming throughout the process.

As the ceremony began to conclude, our principal, Mr. Hollerith, addressed many thanks to the crowd and handed over the baton to the counselors who then called off the names in alphabetical order.

Starting with student body presidents, Bellinson and Stubbs and ending with Emily Zvirbulis and the 372 in the middle, they had walked (some flipped, some danced) across the stage shaking hands of committee members including Superintendent Dr. Rob Glass.

The seniors did it.  They completely graduated. They threw up their caps and hugged, as high school had ended.

Four years of hardwork, and dedication and a ton of adversity, they will all be heading their separate ways to start a new chapter.
