BHHS Music Program Going to Orlando, Florida

Having never gone anywhere like this with school, students and directors alike are getting ready for their trip to Orlando, Florida.

“I would say I would be mentally preparing myself, not just for work but more than anything for the excitement,” said senior Annaliese Wilbur. “I think it has been trying to memorize the songs every week in edition to going to choir and preparing more than anything. I believe that preparing is travel plans and packing and what you can do to get prepared for that. My friends and I have gotten together and it is more preparing friend-wise for the excitement and for all that is going to happen.”

The work that the students will be doing in Orlando is part of the Disney Performing Arts Program. They will get the experience to work with an well known clinician and learn all about the professional music program.

“The clinics that Disney offers, in this case, Disney Sings and Your Instrumental, programs are unique in that the band, orchestra, and choir get to go Backstage Disney with an experienced clinician and get to actually record a segment of Disney music that is put to film and then get a record of that so the directors will actually have a flash drive that has that performance,” said Jeff Crum, a travel guide attending the trip with BHHS. “That is unique to what this experience offers.”

Students and directors alike are excited for this trip and are waiting for both the weather and the experience.

“The weather is going to be really nice, so I am really excited about that,” said band director Alan Posner. “I am really excited about the clinic and the chance to perform. We will be able to perform in front of a lot of people in Disney Springs and I just hope that the kids have a good time and enjoy the sun and the fun rides.”

Along with Posner, choir director Jessica Riley is excited for the workshops for her students.

“I think the cool thing about the Disney workshop is we aren’t taking anything that we have already prepared,” said Riley. “The thing that is going to happen at Disney is that we are going to go in and they will hand us a piece of music and we get to work on it there. We get to record it to a scene and we get to home to the recording. I am really excited about that.”

Wilbur is hoping for an incredible experience and develop closer relationships.

“What I hope to get out of this is an incredible experience like no other because I really want an opportunity to do something with the people that I love that is so much different than just a school field trip or just another day in the choir room,” said Wilbur. “I really want an opportunity to develop closer relationships to the people around me.”
