Seasoned detectives from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department have recently come out of retirement to put to rest unsolved murder cases that have been brushed to the side for near decades.

They aren’t there for the monetary compensation (because there is none) but rather the possibilities of somehow bringing closure to an Oakland County murder or other major violent crimes that have remained unsolved for years at a time.

Unsolved, but not forgotten.

“We have some experience in the area – and we’re good at it, “ said cold cases team member Bill Petersen, a retiree from the Detroit Police Department’s homicide division who describes himself and the others in the unit as “old school detectives.”

”It’s about serving up justice, bringing a case before the court. And, occasionally, getting an evil person off the streets,” he said. So far, the formerly retired detectives have already made great progress on many unsolved cases within the Oakland County area; and by the looks of things, this is only the beginning.
