New parking lot to provide additional spaces for juniors

As the 2017-2018 school year is ending, the construction of a new parking lot has begun. Construction managers Brian Goby and Carl Mantalo gave a rundown on the plans for the parking lot.

As the plans are set to be finished for this upcoming school year, Goby said, “We are creating about 100-140 parking spots for the school. There will be more spots offered to the junior class.”

“They’re stripping all of the topsoil and getting the underground retention system in,” Goby continued. “On the side, they have a big stormwater retention system that going in. The next big thing is strpping all of the dirt off and getting ready for that.”

In addition to the parking lot, there is also a new crosswalk being added in.

Montalo commented, “One of the greatest new things is the new crosswalk. The crosswalk is lined up with the front doors of the school instead of having to walk around the jag. It will have a hawk system that is pedestrian activated, which will stop traffic.” This is a much more efficient and safer way of walking into the building.

“They will have a crossing guard to the parent loop, but not one for the road. Not only are we increasing parking but were also drastically increasing safety,” Montalo said.
