Friends, movies, food, oh my! Movie Club can provide them all
With the smell of buttery popcorn permeating the air, a Friday movie after school is a “relaxing way to end the week,” said junior member Annaka Torrey. Advised by Imaging and Graphic Design teacher Peg Pasternak, the club is currently running for the 4th year.
“Max Helfman was the original founder and president. When he graduated last year, he passed the torch on to Laine Lord, who is the perfect successor. This is my first year as the official sponsor,” Pasternak said.
Now a freshman in college, Maximillian Helfman started Movie Club when he was just a sophomore. When he graduated, leadership was passed onto junior Laine Lord, who is the new president.
The club, as many students have remarked, including senior Vice President Brooklin Bekolay, is a valuable way to end the week.
“My favorite part [of the club] is being able to watch some of my favorite films, as well as the ones I have not seen with people who also enjoy spending a Friday afternoon watching movies,” Bekolay said, who added that her favorite movies so far are “Whiplash,” “Interstellar,” and “The Room.”
“My favorite would have to be ‘Clockwork Orange,’” said Torrey. “Even though it is supposed to be a little bit of a serious movie, I laughed the entire time because I can never be serious around my friends.”
Pasternak welcomes students to attend the next meeting of Movie Club.
“We meet every Friday with few exceptions, such as Homecoming and holidays. We’re downstairs at Model,” she said.
Come to movie club at “2:50 sharp” says Lord, and spend your time with friends, relaxing and watching movies!
