Student Leadership Success
Student Leaders win a variety of awards.
The last week of March each year marks an exciting weekend for student leaders. Every spring, about 20 student leadership representatives are chosen to represent our school at the state conference in Grand Rapids. At this conference, students have the opportunity to listen to speakers, present their best projects, and collaborate during structured activities with 2,000 other student leaders from all over the state.
“Student Leadership states was an amazing opportunity collaborate with and learn from amazing students all across Michigan,” said junior Lexie Finkelstein.
This year, our school was granted a variety of awards. We won “Star School” and the “Award of Excellence.” Individuals were also recognized: Sophia Washer was a nominee for student of the year, and Brooklin Bekolay was rewarded with the Unsung Hero Award. Most importantly, our principal, Charlie Hollerith, was awarded principal of the year. These awards are granted based on essays written by current student leaderships representatives who nominate their peers and advisors each year.
