Golden Girl

Just weeks before her 100th birthday, Betty White left the world shocked by her unexpected passing

Betty White is a notable pioneer in the entertainment industry and is well recognized for her endless roles in film, such as Rose Nylund in NBC’s iconic, well-known sitcom, The Golden Girls.

With over seven decades of contribution to movies and television and gaining the love and respect of America, Betty White’s roles have been prominent for over three different generations of viewers. Generations of families across the globe grew up watching Betty White light up their televisions, and she will forever be remembered.

Taryn Wiggins, a senior at Bloomfield Hills High School, was deeply shocked by the tragic news.

“When I first heard the news, it felt surreal. Both my parents and I grew up seeing her perform on the TV; it just felt surreal,” Wiggins shared.

In honor of Betty White, Hallmark Channel decided to air a marathon of carefully curated episodes of the The Golden Girls TV series.

“The marathon includes specially selected episodes of The Golden Girls that highlight Rose’s surprising competitive streak; funny career moments; along with plenty of romance, including boyfriends Dr. Jonathan Newman, Mister Terrific, and, of course, Miles Webber,” Hallmark Channel revealed.

Although the news has saddened many, fans believe Betty White’s accomplishments and her role in the media should be celebrated rather than grieved. Fans across the country have started a campaign called the “Betty White Challenge,” encouraging fans to support charities by giving donations to organizations that White loved.

Almost all her fans know that Betty was a known animal lover and animal rights activist. Through the challenge, over $10,000 have been seen in donations towards animal shelters, a much-needed boost for locations that have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic in recent years.

Even in memory, the legend of Betty White carries on through the people she’s touched.
