Bloomfield Hills Schools are closed on Friday, January 10 due to significant damage to the district’s fiber optic network.
Toward the end of the school day on Thursday, an internet outage occurred across the district. It was later announced by BHSD that the outage was to the entire network, not just the wifi as students and staff initially assumed. According to BHSD, the damage disrupted critical functions such as internet access, classroom technology, phone systems, and safety measures. The district’s technology team worked with service providers to repair the damage. Although progress was made, the network was not fully operational by the end of the day Thursday, leading to the decision to close schools on Friday to ensure safety.
Extracurricular programs scheduled for the evening of January 9 were canceled. Coaches communicated directly with athletic teams regarding their games and practices.Â
