Since the spring of the 2024-2025 school year, the Black Hawk community has observed the increasing amounts of construction along the athletic entrance. Rumors spread regarding a new concession stand, a locker room, storage for the band, and more, sparking interest among many individuals. Although the athletics were surrounded by construction for months, by the first home football game, everything was finalized and ready for use, including a brand-new ticket purchasing layout and new bathrooms on the home team’s side.
“We proposed a plan to have this building built where it would serve as a public restroom on the top floor for the tennis court level, a storage place for tennis, and a private restroom for the tennis team,” said Avis Najor, the Bloomfield Hills High School Athletic Director. “On the bottom level, we finally achieved the goal of having restrooms for our home side bleachers. That building went where the old ticket booth or building used to be, so that made us need to have a new entrance and a new ticket booth.”
“It’s probably been in the planning stages for maybe six to eight years,” Najor said. “About two years, start to finish, with the construction that happened with the Wellness Center, the team rooms, the new entrance, and the new building that took place for tennis and restrooms.”
With the Black Hawk statue on top and the glowing ‘BLACK HAWKS’ letters standing above the walkway, this new aesthetic is admired by students, faculty, families, and the community.
After the first home game with the improved ticket stand was complete, it was unanimously concluded that everything went very smoothly, and entering the game was quicker and easier than ever before. “It’s less traffic in one spot and there are three lines instead of two,” Lola McMurtrie observed. Olivia Jenney adds, “You can get in so much faster now.”
For the future, Avis Najor explains that nothing is yet to come right now, because, “We’re so happy and grateful to have what we have,” and this upgrade is, “a statement that we’re proud to be Black Hawks.”
