Long Lake Rd. reopens after months-long construction reroutes school traffic
After four long months, construction on Long Lake Road west of Franklin Road has concluded. The construction, which began in September and was slated for completion in November, stretched on into February. The project, approved by Bloomfield Township Trustees last year, was initiated to replace a sanitary sewer beneath the road. The construction delays are attributed to water main conflicts underneath the road that also required construction.
The closure caused road congestion on nearby roads, as drivers made detours on Lone Pine Road, Telegraph Road, and Orchard Lake Road. The segment of Long Lake Road formerly under construction is used by north of 17,000 cars daily. The four-month-long closure lengthened many Bloomfield Hills and West Bloomfield residents’ commute to work or school.
Drivers must be advised that construction zones have only been temporarily patched; it is important to exercise caution while driving through this area and heed the advised 35-mile-per-hour speed limit. The permanent road patching will be installed later this spring.
