Three easy after school snacks

After a long, exhausting day of school, your stomach rumbles like an internal earthquake. You can’t wait to have a healthy, fulfilling snack full of flavor and then take a refreshing nap before getting started on your homework. You open the cabinet and you see many different tastes: sweet, salty, etc., but nothing sounds good. If you want to make a quick snack that will satisfy your taste buds and is simple and easy to make, I have some recipes just for you! Below, I have listed some of my personal favorite after-school snacks that will help you look forward to getting home and eating that flavorful snack.

First of all, microwavable pasta! This quick and easy meal only takes about 6 minutes to prepare and is a great snack to make quickly before you go to practice or start studying for a test. You could add cheese, marinara sauce, meat, and really any toppings you want to make your pasta dish taste exactly how you want it. This steamy meal will warm your belly and will fill you with just enough energy to be productive and move on to your next task. Here is how to make it!

Ingredients/Materials:

  • Mug
  • Pasta
  • Water
  • Butter
  • Cheese
  • Salt
  • Chicken/Toppings

Directions:

  1. Pour the noodles into the mug and cover the noodles with water.
  2. Put the mug into the microwave for 5 min 30 sec, stirring halfway.
  3. Strain, add toppings, and mix!

Next, we have a mix of complementary flavors – on a charcuterie board! I know some of the best boards contain a mix of fruit, cheese, and crackers, and sometimes even yogurt. This is by far my favorite after-school snack because it will fulfill all of your taste inclinations. If you want something fresh, sweet, tangy, and a little bit salty, this board is for you! The instructions are listed below, enjoy!

Ingredients:

  • Apples
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Grapes
  • Any other desired fruit
  • Cheese
  • Crackers
  • Yogurt with granola

Directions:

  1. Once you slice up all of the fruit and cheese, mix and make some fun designs!

Lastly, smoothies are a great on-the-go, refreshing snack that will fill you with energy to run onto your next task! I know I love to make a good smoothie with a variety of berries, granola, and honey before I have volleyball practice, and it is the best snack on a warmer day. This cold, fruity drink is great to put in a travel cup and drink on your way to practice or to study homework. The best part of a smoothie though, is that you can add practically anything to the smoothie and it will come out delicious! Take your favorite fruit, yogurt, and liquid, and blend to make a tasteful masterpiece. Here is one of my favorite smoothie recipes below.

Ingredients:

  • Frozen Berry Mix (Strawberries, Blueberries, Raspberries and Blackberries)
  • 1 whole banana
  • Milk
  • Either Strawberry Banana or Blueberry yogurt
  • Honey
  • Granola

Directions:

  1. Add all of the ingredients into the blender, in your personal proportions, and blend!

All of these snacks listed above take under five minutes to prepare and will provide a healthier snack than grabbing something processed. These unique mini-meals will fill you and provide you with enough energy to be productive and to finish out the day. Whether it is going to a sports practice, finishing homework, or going to a job, your body needs fuel to make it through the day with energy and fun, and these snacks are the perfect source of energy for that! The next time you get home from school and are starving, try out one of these quick and unique snacks full of flavor and nourishment to keep you energized on the longest school days.
