In the Bloomfield Hills community, we believe two Mediterranean restaurants stand above all the rest: Middle Eats and 2941. While there are arguments to be made for places like Pita Way and La Marsa, they simply don’t compare to these two. We are going to be taking a deep look into both in order to get to the bottom of which one is definitively better.
Charlie: Middle Eats
Middle Eats is located on Square Lake and Woodward, over by the Chicken Shack and Coldstone. They opened their first location in 2022 and opened the Bloomfield location in 2023. You can also find them in Warren, Detroit, East Lansing, and Lathrup Village, with two new locations in Southgate and Macomb coming soon.
There is a wide range of menu options at Middle Eats. When it comes to entrees, I highly recommend getting a wrap, although a bowl is also a great option. There are seven main options for meat to go for: Chicken, Steak, Shrimp, Chicken & Steak, Steak & Shrimp, Chicken & Shrimp, or Trifecta (Chicken, Steak & Shrimp). While there are other options for dietary restrictions, such as falafel or vegetarian, I would recommend sticking to one of the aforementioned options as they all taste great.
Bowls come with a base of yellow rice underneath your meat of choice as well as hummus or garlic, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, and their dillio sauce, a creamy dill sauce that comes in either regular or spicy. Additionally, their wraps are made very similarly, with meat, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, garlic spread, and the spicy or regular dillio sauce. If you’d prefer a salad instead, they have several options that you are bound to like.
This may surprise you, but they also sell french fries, which are genuinely some of the best fries I’ve had. I haven’t gotten around to trying them, but there is also an option for loaded shawarma fries, which are essentially Mediterranean nachos with fries. Finally, Middle Eats also has fantastic dessert options. They have parfait options of Banana Bread and Strawberry-Banana bread as well as cheesecake options of Strawberry or Red Velvet. However, my personal favorite is the strawberry shortcake, which comes in a plastic container filled to the brim with cake bits, strawberries, and whipped cream.
One more thing worth mentioning is the drink options. In addition to a Pepsi fountain machine, the Bloomfield location has 4 vibrant colored drink options. There is a bright red fruit punch, an orange tang drink, a classic yellow lemonade, and my personal favorite choice, the blue raspberry lemonade. Overall, Middle Eats is becoming a staple of the Bloomfield Hills community, and I believe it is the superior Mediterranean food spot.

Aidan: 2941
2941 Mediterranean Street Food is a fast-style restaurant chain in Michigan that offers a modern twist on traditional Mediterranean Cuisine. Most conveniently located at Maple and Telegraph, there are currently six locations in the Metro-Detroit area. 2941 has 3 main options: the Mini Bowl, the Honest Bowl, and the Stuff-It Sandwich. I traditionally go with a Mini Bowl, but the sandwich is also a fantastic option.
First, you select a base such as rice or bulgar wheat. I always choose basmati rice because it is a reliable option. Next, you choose from several protein options: Tandoori Chicken, Za’Atar Paprika Steak, Moroccan Lamb, Aleppo Pepper Chicken, Falafel, or Vegetable Arook. I prefer the Tandoori Chicken. Finally, you can choose from several toppings and fillers. I usually order fresh cucumbers along with Kaleboulleh to bring a source of freshness to my bowl.
2941 also has a variety of sauce choices, and in my opinion, their garlic sauce is the best of any Mediterranean place around. The garlic sauce at Middle Eats is overpowering if you’re not a garlic lover, while it’s too mild at Pita Way—but at 2941, it’s perfectly balanced.
2941 also offers a few dessert options, such as the chocolate chunk cookie, salted caramel cookie, baklava, a brownie, and the brown butter marshmallow bar. If you are a fan of baklava, I think they do a pretty good job with it, especially for a fast-casual restaurant. Otherwise, you won’t be disappointed with the Salted Caramel Cookie or the Brownie.
Another important thing to note is that 2941 offers all of their fillers as side dishes, so if you are craving something specific, they will always let you take extra with you. The final thing worth covering is the beverage options. There are no special beverages offered by 2941, but they have a soda fountain machine as well as a cooler of canned and bottled drinks. While I prefer Middle Eats, 2941 Mediterranean Street Food chains are more common to find around the area, making it a viable option.
