On Monday, September 25, Bloomfield Hills High School administration, counselors, and families celebrated BHHS’ 2018 National Merit Scholarship semifinalists Venkata Chengalvala, Virgine De Smet, Faraaz Iqbal, Ananyaa Kumar, Emily Sun, Srirama Varanasi, Emily Wang, and Simona Zhu.

After scoring at or above the Class of 2018 selection index in Fall 2016 as juniors on the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test), these seniors competed in a national scholarship program, each of them reaching semifinalist standing at the end of the annual competition.

In order to become a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, juniors must score at or above the selection index for Michigan and on a national scale, then compete after that according to an essay, their course rigor, and grades, as well as verifying the PSAT score with an SAT score.
