Free meals program resumes

Students share their favorite free lunch line entrées as Michigan Schools offer free meals to all students

During the early years of the Covid-19 pandemic, the state of Michigan expanded their free lunch program to offer free school lunch to all students. This program was discontinued for the 2022-23 school year, and regular lunch prices were reinstituted. To see more about the discontinuation of free meals last school year, see “The End to Free Meals at Bloomfield Hills Schools”

Over the summer, Michigan’s State Legislature signed a bill that will enforce free breakfast and lunch for all public school students across the state of Michigan. This 160 million dollar bill allocates money to feed over 1.4 million public school students one breakfast and one lunch every day for the duration of the 2023-24 school year.
